![]() ![]() When I use them side by side, I move them to a different wall in the room, but I couldn't get far enough away to take a full picture from that direction. Here's a couple pictures of my design wall. And I can pin into the insulation when needed. The gridded flannel makes it really easy to keep the blocks lined up straight. ![]() I covered the insulation with the grey gridded flannel designed by Kaffe Fassett for Rowan. I can still use one or set them side by side to lay out a larger quilt. They are still light weight and easily moved. This time I used 2 - 4 foot x 8 foot sections of 1" rigid insulation. For what its worth, you can buy 2-inch gridded flannel for quilt design walls, 54 inches wide at Eddies Quilting Bee (through their Born To Quit web store). I could either use one, or if laying out a large quilt could put them side by side. I had covered 2 pieces of 4 x 8 foot foam core with white flannel. I had used a design wall for the last several years which worked fairly well. The design wall I made works well for me in that is is lightweight and can easily be moved within the room and big enough to layout most of a queen size quilt. I am lucky enough to have a sewing room-small, but my very own. I love it and it was really easy to make. ( I want a design wall that is 60 - 72' wide) Online I found several other types, but the Roberts quilt wall was the simplest, and is reasonably priced. Do you have one? I made myself a new one last fall. I originally was going to attach gridded flannel to a roller shade, but decided mechanically, the roller clutch mechanism would not hold up to the extra bulk well. DRITZ-Fons and Porter Instant Design Wall. I am still mentally working out a quilting plan for a guild donation/fundraising quilt. My current design wall is too narrow at six feet, so maybe eight feet would work out better? I still haven't fixed the binding on the 365 quilt (I chopped off way too many points for my liking). Right now we are leaning toward individually wrapping two 4 x 8 sheets of foam insulation and mounting them on the wall with command strips. In other sewing news, I'm trying to decide the size and placement of a new design wall in the sewing room. It seems like we have them year round, but maybe not. And I learned that turkey vultures migrate. We saw an eagle flying high above the sewage treatment facility on the way to town. We can't remember that ever happening before. One unusual thing is that a mockingbird keeps coming in to the suet feeders. The other, regular birds have been draining the bird seed and suet quickly and some are exhibiting mating behavior and/or trying to build nests. ![]()
